Why Isla?
The Isla Initiative earned it’s purpose in honour of Isla, a dog whose journey felt guided by fate itself. For the first four months of her young life, she endured neglect and abuse on a cold Ontarian farm - beaten, overlooked, riddled with parasites, and left to survive on her own.
In March of 2024, we stumbled across her ad on Kijiji, intended to sell her at a ticket price of just $50 - they were eager to leave for vacation and ready to be rid of her. And yet, in that random listing, the universe had delivered her to us personally. She was the biological sister of a dog we already loved - a perfect twist of destiny, proof that some connections cannot be broken.
Her resilience was quiet but unshakable. Her trust, once fractured, slowly returned. And in watching her belief in humanity blossom, my own was restored. Isla’s story became the compass for The Isla Initiative: a space for second chances, for voices that need to be heard, for lives that can be transformed by care, compassion, and connection.
From families navigating the shadows of mental health and substance-use struggles, to youth without a safe home, to animals in need of protection, The Isla Initiative channels her spirit. It is a testament to hope, to fate, and to the quiet, profound power of resilience.
The Isla Initiative prioritizes partnerships with transparent, community-based organizations to ensure support is responsible, measurable, and genuinely impactful.
